Cruise To The Most Instagrammed Places On Earth

By Azamara

Instagram recently released a list of the most Instagrammed places on Earth. No surprise here – Azamara visits most of them! Check out the list – and our own favorite Instagrams – below.

Eiffel Tower in Paris, France

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic landmarks on earth and is also one of the most geo-tagged locations on Instagram this year. It welcomes almost seven million visitors every year.

Visit Paris during the Azamara Quest’s European Capitals cruise in August 2016.

Tower Bridge in London, England

The iconic Tower Bridge is a combined bascule (moveable drawbridge) and suspension bridge crossing the River Thames. The Tower Bridge Exhibition recently added a glass walkway, which allows visitors to look down on boats, pedestrians, cars, and buses.

Add a snap of the bridge to your own Instagram feed during an overnight stay in London on our 2018 world Journey.

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, United States

You’ll find Dodger Stadium in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Constructed in 1962, it’s the third-oldest major league baseball stadium – Boston’s Fenway Park (built in 1912) and Chicago’s Wrigley Field (built in 1914) are older.

Spend a few days in the city of angels before embarking on a voyage to Miami, via the Panama Canal.

İstiklal Caddesi in Istanbul, Turkey

Also known as İstiklal Avenue, it’s no surprise that the most famous avenue in Istanbul is also one of the most Instagrammed places on earth. Over three million people may visit this street in a single day, to shop, eat and socialize. The street is found in the historic Beyoğlu district and is lined with gorgeous Ottoman-era buildings.

The avenue is pedestrian-only, but you can also go for a ride on the historic Tünel Tram. Istanbul’s trams are popular with tourists, and carry an average of 6,000 passengers each day!

The Azamara Journey’s Adriatic & Greek Isles cruise in May 2016 ends with an overnight stay in Istanbul.

Vondelpark in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is a very photogenic city, thanks to its gorgeous canals, bicycle-lined streets, and famous “I Amsterdam” sign. So what makes Vondelpark one of the most Instagrammed places in the city? Well, the park hosts about ten million visitors each year.

Vondelpark is 120 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. There are several bars and restaurants, an open-air theater, sculptures and play areas.

The Azamara Quest will call on Amsterdam in June 2016 when we cruise from London to the Baltic.

Park Güell in Barcelona, Spain

Park Güell is one of the most iconic attractions in Barcelona and is incredibly photogenic thanks to its designer, Antoni Gaudi. His artistic flair is instantly recognizable. The park also offers incredible views of Barcelona.

Barcelona is one of the “European Jewels” on this Azamara Quest voyage.

Nevsky Prospect in Saint Petersburg, Russia

Nevsky Prospect is the main thoroughfare in Saint Petersburg, and is home to many of the city’s most renowned landmarks: Anichkov Bridge, the Admiralty Building, the Moscow Railway Station, Stroganov Palace, Vosstaniya Square, Kazan Cathedral, the Saint Alexander Nevsky Monastery, Singer House (also known as “House of Books”) as well as numerous churches, monuments and shopping destinations. With so much to see, it’s no wonder that so many Instagrams are snapped each year.

The Azamara Quest will dock overnight in the heart of Saint Petersburg on this summer 2016 cruise.

Colosseum in Rome, Italy

Rome is home to numerous landmarks, so we knew the Eternal City would appear on this list eventually. The Colosseum receives four million visitors annually. During ancient times, it could accommodate 50,000 spectators for the barbaric gladiator games it hosted.

In August 2016, the Azamara Journey will embark on a cruise round-trip from Rome’s port, Civitavecchia.

East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany

The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 kilometer stretch of the Berlin Wall that serves as a memorial for freedom. In 1990, artists from across the globe gathered to create 105 paintings that symbolize change, hopefulness, and a free future.

When the Azamara Quest docks in Warnemunde, Germany during this Baltic Rendezvous cruise, guests can visit Berlin and the East Side Gallery.

Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy

Venice is a small city, but a popular one. An estimated twenty million tourists visit each year – approximately 60,000 per day. Piazza San Marco is the heart of a city, a public square that’s home to St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, the Campanile bell tower, the Clock Tower, the Museo Correr and more.

Azamara’s small ships dock in the heart of Venice, closer to the Piazza than other, larger ships.

In July 2016, the Azamara Journey will cruise the Adriatic Sea round-trip from Venice, concluding with an overnight stay.

Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok’s Siam Paragon is one of the largest shopping malls in all of Asia. Scroll through Instagram, and you’ll see thousands of photos of luxury boutiques and crisscrossing escalators. It’s also home to a cinema, an aquarium, an art gallery, an opera concert hall, a bowling alley and a karaoke center.

In 2013, the mall was named the #1 “Most Instagrammed” spot in the world. Although it dropped to nineteenth place this year, it is still an incredibly popular destination for both tourists and Thai elite.

During our December 2016 Vietnam & Thailand cruise, the Azamara Journey will dock in Bangkok for three days. That’s plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing!

The Dubai Mall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Siam Paragon may be the largest shopping mall in Asia, but the Dubai Mall is the largest worldwide. It’s part of Dubai’s twenty-billion-dollar Downtown complex and is home to 1,200 shops. The total retail floor area is 502,000 square meters, compared to Siam Paragon’s 400,000 square meters.

Beyond shopping, attractions at the Dubai Mall include a skating rink, an aquarium, a cinema, a SEGA theme park, and a luxury hotel. The mall reportedly received 80 million visitors in 2014.

In May 2016, the Azamara Quest will embark on a voyage from Dubai to Athens, via the Suez Canal.

Seven Things to do in Croatia

Croatia has seen a sort of transformation recently, one that has taken it from a hidden gem of coastal delights to one of the hottest travel destinations in Europe. What makes this small Balkan nation so appealing? It could be the brilliant sapphire waters of the Adriatic and spectacular white beaches. Or maybe it’s the medieval architecture and walled towns steeped in history begging to be uncovered. Or perhaps it’s the friendly, welcoming people and unique folk culture.
