I have written thousands of blog posts on my own site and for countless others all over the world but this post is a first for me. I am writing this blog post about Osaka, Japan and I have never been there before. I will be going early next year with Azamara, but for now it is one of the few major cities on Earth I have not been to. That said, I think this will be fun and I definitely look forward to writing another after I visit Osaka.

I do know that Osaka has a rich cultural history and has a ton of old and modern sites. I am most looking forward to visiting Osaka Castle. I am also looking forward to seeing the legendary nighttime skyline of Osaka; which is actually the seventh largest metropolitan economy in the world, but second in Japan to Tokyo.

Osaka is best known for food and for shopping. I’ve had friends come back from Osaka raving that the authentic food is better than it is in Tokyo. I find this hard to believe because the food in Tokyo is so good but I can’t wait to find this out for myself. Udon is one of my favorite things on earth.

While I am not a big shopper, the Japanese have a flair for it. Not only do they love shopping but they also love making spectacles of their shopping districts. As Ginza in Tokyo is one of the most recognizable in the world, I can’t wait to visit the Dotonbori area and see all the bright lights!

As a sports fanatic and baseball at the forefront of my fanaticism, Osaka is home to four professional sports teams. This includes the Orix Buffaloes; the former team of future Hall of Famer, Ichiro Suzuki. I hope to get to one of their home games at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka.

Osaka is also home to Universal Studios, a famous aquarium and is supposed to be a great city to just get lost in and explore. That’s exactly what I plan to do when I visit in 2015 with Azamara.

Seven Things to do in Croatia

Croatia has seen a sort of transformation recently, one that has taken it from a hidden gem of coastal delights to one of the hottest travel destinations in Europe. What makes this small Balkan nation so appealing? It could be the brilliant sapphire waters of the Adriatic and spectacular white beaches. Or maybe it’s the medieval architecture and walled towns steeped in history begging to be uncovered. Or perhaps it’s the friendly, welcoming people and unique folk culture.
