Embark on a fascinating journey to the desert city of Petra, whose tombs and elaborate buildings carved out of solid rock have been featured in films and have been celebrated by the Smithsonian Magazine. Petra, the mysterious city of the Nabataeans, was isolated in a forbidden valley. Your adventure begins with a hike through a narrow gorge known as the “Siq.” This breathtaking natural canyon winds through the towering rocks. Follow your guide past water channels, carvings, and representations of Nabataean gods. Your first glimpse of the Rose Red City is the Treasury, an ancient tomb carved into the cliff face. Admire the Greek Theatre. Pass ancient Royal Tombs, the Colonnaded Street, and view the Temple of Qasr Al-Bint, believed to be the main place of worship and the city’s only free-standing building. Bedouin families still inhabit the surrounding areas of this extraordinary treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
