OverviewHide
Lift off into the Icelandic skies for a panoramic flight to the island of Grimsey. Soar over pristine bays, rimmed with mighty basalt columns, and witness the 100-foot-high cliffs on Grimsey’s east coast before touching down on this tiny island. Straddling the Arctic Circle, Grimsey is an oasis of green rising from the North Atlantic that spans 3.3 square miles and is home to just over 60 residents. Yet, as you’ll see on a guided walk, the village features its own elementary school, guesthouse, and, oddly enough, swimming pool in the polar reaches. Learn how fishing and farming thrive in this remote locale, before setting out on a birdwatching expedition. Grimsey is home to 60 different species of birds. Look for Puffins, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Arctic Terns and others before taking to the air yourself for the scenic return flight.
