Explore the city of Longyearbyen on foot with your guide, who shares its rich history dating back to 1900. Meet your guide at the harbor and set out walking through the industrial area, passing the power station, the only one firing on coal in Norway. See old and closed mines in the mountains, leftover from the old settlement of Longyear City, which was burned during WWII. Walk to the city center, viewing flora, and try to spot the Svalbard reindeer, known for its short legs and fat body. Hear about the locals, as you pass traditional homes. Pass the old transport system for coal, called the cable way station, and the Svalbard Church before you arrive to Svalbard Museum, where the story of Svalbard unfolds before you. After your visit, you are free to return to the city center on your own or follow your guide back to the harbor.
