Canary Island Hopping Off the Coast of Morocco
Your Canary Islands adventure begins in idyllic Gran Canaria. Located in the Atlantic Ocean about 800 miles off the coast of Europe, Gran Canaria is like a little slice of Spanish paradise. Go to the old city center of Vegueta to walk down the same streets as Columbus did 500 years ago, visit Maspalomas — renowned for its beaches, sand dunes, and lighthouse — or head to Tejeda for the rock formation of Roque Nublo and spectacular views.
Your next stop is Madeira, Portugal, for an overnight stay. Here, you’ll find numerous parks and gardens — wild and natural, manicured, and one attached to the villa of a former prince. Take a high-tech cable car up to Monte, in the hills overlooking Funchal, and descend by traditional wicker basket sledge. The next morning, we’ll return to the Canary Islands on La Palma for a late-night stay. Aptly nicknamed “pretty island,” La Palma promises beautiful beaches, volcanic backdrops, and some of the world’s best stargazing. Next, a variable array of stunning landscapes and forested trails await on El Hierro before leaving for another late stay in the otherworldly landscapes of Tenerife.
A notoriously festive destination, Tenerife is the biggest, most well-known of Spain's Canary Islands. The volcanic island is characterized by rugged, steep coastline and miles of beaches, popular for kite surfing and swimming. Teide-Pico Viejo, Spain’s tallest peak, towers over the island, and its national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your voyage concludes back in Gran Canaria, where an overnight stay gives you ample time to continue exploring its 29 miles of otherworldly landscapes and attractions.
