Azamara® Announces the Removal of Its Embarkation COVID-19 Testing Requirement

Beginning July 25, 2022, Azamara no longer requires pre-cruise COVID-19 testing for guests, excluding ports where pre-travel testing is still needed in accordance with country regulations. To ensure the health and safety of guests and crew, Azamara will still require proof of vaccination prior to embarkation.     • Azamara does not require a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding unless this is required by local country regulations. However, we highly recommend that guests take a COVID-19 test prior to starting their travels.

    • For those countries that still require guests to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding, please consider the following instructions:

      • The test results must be from a testing laboratory or a licensed testing site.  We accept at-home test kits which are proctored and certified by a medical provider.

      • The COVID-19 test can either be:

        • PCR: Test date no older than 3 days prior to embarkation; OR 

        • Antigen: Test date must be within one day of embarkation

          • Antigen COVID-19 testing is available for $59 USD in the terminal or on the boarding deck. Boarding will be denied to those guests who cannot provide a negative COVID-19 test.

    FAQs

    • Will I have to take a SARS-CoV-2 test before or during my cruise?

      Azamara does not require a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding unless this is required by local country regulations. However, we highly recommend that guests take a COVID-19 test prior to starting their travels. For those countries that still require guests to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding, please consider the following instructions:

      The test results must be from a testing laboratory or licensed testing site. We accept at-home test kits which are proctored and certified by a medical provider. The COVID-19 test can either be:

      PCR: Test date no longer than 3 days prior to embarkation or 

      Antigen: Test date must be within one day of embarkation.

      For guests who cannot present a negative COVID-19 test upon embarkation, testing is available in the terminal or on the boarding deck for $59 USD for antigen and $85 USD for PCR. Please contact Guest Relations while onboard for further information. Please note some governments and certain airlines require proof of a negative SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test no more than three days before entry or flight departure.

      As of June 12, 2022, U.S. CDC will no longer require air passengers traveling from a foreign country to the United States to show a negative COVID-19 viral test, making travel easier for our U.S. guests returning from cruises outside the country, and international guests cruising from U.S. homeports. 

    • Are results for a COVID-19 test from a home testing kit accepted?

      We accept at-home test kits which are proctored and certified by a medical provider.

    • If I test positive for SARS-COV-2 right before my cruise, at the terminal, or on the cruise, what is your compensation policy and what associated costs are covered?
      • A 100% Future Cruise Credit will be provided for any guest who tests positive within two weeks of their sail date, as well as any members of their immediate traveling party who choose to cancel.
      • If you test positive for COVID-19 at the terminal, Azamara will cover travel change fees and accommodation expenses not covered by travel insurance, upon presentation of proof of a negative antigen or PCR COVID test prior to travel.  
      • If you test positive for COVID-19 during the cruise, you will be entitled to either a partial or full FCC for the amount paid, depending on the situation. Azamara will also cover the costs of COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard, any required land-based quarantine, and flight change fees to return home for you and your Traveling Party. Guests must comply with travel requirements, health and safety protocols in order to be eligible for this reassurance.  

      We encourage guests purchase travel insurance for added peace of mind and reassurance, either through Azamara or other insurance provider of your choice.

    • What health screening measures are being taken at the terminal on boarding day?

      Azamara does not require a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding unless this is required by local country regulations. However, we highly recommend that guests take a COVID-19 test prior to starting their travels.

      For those countries that still require guests to present a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding, please consider the following instructions:

      Prior to embarkation, check our Explore Well at Sea Travel Requirements and government sites for specifics as the requirements vary by port and continue to evolve.

    • Will I need to show proof of vaccination on embarkation day?

      All guests must be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to sail with Azamara. Both doses or approved single-dose vaccines will be required, along with a booster prior to departure. Please note, boosters are effective immediatley once administered. Vaccines must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency, or the WHO, and guests will be required to show verified documentation at check-in.

      Verified documentation should be in the form of the original vaccination record document issued by either (1) the country’s health authority that administered the vaccination (e.g., U.S. CDC's Vaccination Record Card) or (2) the guest's medical provider that administered the vaccination.

  • Vaccine Requirement

    • To ensure the safety and health of our guests and crew members, all guests 12 years and older must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before sailing with all required COVID-19 vaccine doses. Children under 12 years old will not need to be vaccinated.

    • Guests must show proof of vaccination to sail.

    • If guests are eligible for a booster shot, then the booster dose is required to sail with Azamara. However, a second booster is not required.

    • Guests can check specific travel restrictions for countries listed in the itinerary HERE or by visiting applicable government websites.

    • Crew members are vaccinated and will be boosted as soon as they are eligible; they are also tested frequently.

     

    ATTENTION: Vaccination documentation can and will be shared with authorities in our ports of call. Misrepresenting yourself as vaccinated, falsifying documentation, acquiring fraudulent proof of vaccination, using fraudulent proof of vaccination or unauthorized use of Government agency’s seals constitute crimes in many of our ports of call and destinations from where we sail. Sanctions against this type of fraud include fines and imprisonment. Suspicious fraudulent conduct will be reported to local authorities. At Azamara, we reserve the right to: (i) deny boarding; (ii) remove from the ship any guest whom we believe has submitted falsified vaccination documentation; and (iii) bring civil action against any guest who submits false vaccination documentation to recover all costs and damages caused by such fraudulent conduct, including — without limitation — legal fees.

    Guidance for those who have a positive Covid test within the last 28 days:

    If you've tested positive for Covid-19, you need to wait four weeks (28 days) from the day of your positive test to have a booster. This gap will help to separate any side effects of the vaccine from effects of your illness.

    Also please remember: The CDC states that a person is considered “boosted” and up to date right after getting their booster dose.

    • Am I required to be vaccinated and have my booster shot for COVID-19 to sail on Azamara?

      To ensure the safety and health of our guests and crew members, all guests 12 years and older must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before sailing with all required COVID-19 vaccine doses.  Azamara will require vaccine-eligible guests to be fully vaccinated with all initial doses. We also require that fully vaccinated guests get a booster dose when they become eligible to do so. Please note, boosters are effective immediately once administered. Children under 12 years or younger will not need to be vaccinated. 

      Vaccines that are fully approved or authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency, and World Health Organization (WHO) are accepted. Please be aware that certain countries we sail from or visit during a voyage may require a specific vaccine, and only those travelers vaccinated with the requisite vaccine will be considered fully vaccinated. Be sure to review your departure country's requirements or consult our guest materials prior to sailing for these requirements. Below you will find the list of approved vaccines:

      Guests with a mixed series of any two of the following vaccines above taken within a minimum of 28 days between doses, and boosted prior to their sail date will also be considered fully vaccinated. To comply with this requirement, documentation of full vaccination must be provided at the terminal as a condition for boarding Azamara will not accept any form of Certificate of Recovery.

    • Am I required to have vaccines and boosters from the same manufacturer?

      No, you are welcome to sail if you have vaccines and subsequent boosters from different manufacturers.

    • Will I be considered fully vaccinated if my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is from one manufacturer and the second dose is from another?

      We accept a mixed vaccination series consisting of doses from different manufacturers, as long as your vaccine series meets the following requirements:

      • Must consist of at least two doses of vaccines that are fully approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. FDA, the European Medicines Agency, and the WHO.
      • The two doses must be administered at least 28 days apart*

      The final dose must be completed before sailing. Please note, boosters are effective immediately once administered. Mixed vaccines may not be accepted at all ports of call. Guests who are vaccinated with a mixed series may not be allowed to go ashore at these ports, or may need to undergo additional testing if they wish to go ashore.

    • If I lost my original vaccination card, but am able to show electronic proof of vaccination on a government sponsored site/app, will that be accepted as proof of vaccination?

      Yes, if a guest can furnish proof from the government site or app, we will accept as proof of vaccination.

    • What is Azamara’s policy on boosters?
      All guests that are eligible for the booster shot are required to have the booster shot in order to sail. Crew are vaccinated and will receive a booster shot when they are eligible.
  • While Onboard

    Here’s what we are doing to keep our guests and crew healthy and safe:

    Mask Policy

    For sailings starting on or after May 1, masks are recommended but are not required while indoors. Masks may be required in ports of call depending on local governments mandates. We will keep you informed during the voyage when masking is optional, and when masking is required.

    We will continue to update our mask policy as protocols evolve and change.

     

    Physical Distancing

    Physical distancing should be practiced throughout your vacation, from the moment you arrive at the terminal until you return home— allowing at least 6 feet of space between guests who are not in the same traveling party.

    Seating in public spaces such as dining venues, theatres and pool decks will be spread out, and elevators will be limited to no more than four guests or one travel party at a time.

     

    Cleaning Protocols

    Azamara is following advanced cleaning protocols and guidelines recommended by the Healthy Sail Panel of global experts and approved by the CDC.
    Below you can find a list of everything we’re doing to keep our ships clean:

    • Using EPA-certified disinfectants • Utilizing electrostatic spraying
    • Adopting Medical-grade cleaning standards • Enforcing sanitation and prevention control

    FAQs

    • Will I be required to wear a mask while onboard and when going ashore?

      Effective for all sailings from U.S. ports, masks are recommended but are not required while indoors. Masks may be required in ports of call depending on local governments mandates.

      For all other non-U.S. sailings departing outside of the U.S., masks will continue to be required indoors when physical distancing isn’t possible, including public areas, terminals, during shore excursions and in ports of call based on local government regulations. You will not be required to wear a mask in staterooms, while dining, or in outdoor spaces when physical distancing is possible.

      We will continue to update our mask policy as protocols evolve and change.

    • Where and when will physical distancing be required on board? How will this be enforced?

      Physical distancing should be practiced throughout your vacation, from the moment you arrive at the terminal until you return home— allowing at least 6 feet (2 meters) of space between guests who are not in the same traveling party. Seating in public spaces such as dining venues, theatres and pool decks will be spread out, and elevators will be limited to no more than four guests or one travel party at a time.

    • Are there any experiences or venues that are closed?

      Almost all of our onboard venues or experiences will be operating. You may notice protocols in place for your health and safety. Signage will be posted at venues and experiences to guide you.

    • Are reservations required for dining, and will there be limits on party sizes at your restaurants?

      All your favorite restaurants you've been craving will be waiting for you onboard— though some changes have been made for your safety. Reservations are recommended for all dining venues and can be made once onboard. Restaurant seating will be arranged to allow for physical distancing, so guests can eat and drink without face masks while seated, and tables and chairs will be sanitized regularly. Buffets will now be served by crew rather than self-service, and more covered or wrapped grab-and-go items will be made available for your convenience around the ship.  We’re continually monitoring public health guidelines and will modify policies as new information becomes available and standards evolve.

    • Where will I be isolated if I test positive?

      Guests who test positive for COVID-19 (both symptomatic and asymptomatic) will move to isolation staterooms that are closer to the Medical Center and will enjoy complimentary amenities like Wi-Fi and room service, along with regular visits or tele-consultations with medical staff to monitor their wellness. 

    • If my itinerary changes from a port day to a sea day while I’m onboard, will I receive compensation or a Future Cruise Credit? Will port charges for ports that are cancelled be refunded?

      Azamara always strives to operate its itineraries as published. If local regulations or other operational issues require us to substitute a port we will do so.  If we are unable to substitute a port we will evaluate whether other steps should be taken. 

    • What is Azamara’s contact tracing process?

      Due to the small size of our ships, contact tracing is done based on interviews and CCTV footage. Guests who have been identified as a close contract will be contacted for further monitoring and testing.  

  • Fresh Air Filtration

    With new HVAC filtration systems, the air you breathe indoors aboard each of our boutique-style ships is comparable to the fresh sea air you breathe while relaxing on deck. This advanced filtration system takes in fresh sea air and moves it through a 2-stage filter, plus copper coils, to eliminate 99.99% of germs. We have also committed to changing the filters at twice the frequency recommended by the manufacturer for added quality protection.

    FAQs

    • How is air circulated and filtered onboard? Is the air safe onboard a cruise ship?

      With new HVAC filtration systems, the air you breathe indoors aboard each of our boutique-style ships is comparable to the fresh sea air you can take in while relaxing on deck. The incoming air from outside passes through a 2-stage filtration and then over the anti-microbial copper cooling coils before it enters the inside spaces on a ship. We have also committed to changing the filters at twice the frequency recommended by the manufacturer for added quality protection.

  • Medical Capabilities

    Your health and safety are our priorities. That's why you'll find an enhanced medical facility on board each Azamara vessel, with more equipment and a dedicated infectious control officer. Should there be a COVID-19 case onboard, we have new isolation staterooms to provide comfortable, complimentary care and new agreements in place with local governments, hospitals and transportation partners to ensure a safe return home.

    FAQs

    • What if I am not feeling well in the days leading up to my cruise?

      If you feel ill in the days before your cruise, you should not travel, and should contact us to reschedule your reservation. If you booked your cruise on or before 31 August 2022, you will be protected by the Cruise with Confidence policy. Therefore, you can cancel for any reason, up to 48 hours before your sail date, and receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit.  We strongly recommend all guests take a COVID-19 test (either antigen or PCR) within 72 hours of boarding to avoid potential denial of boarding. Keep in mind, on boarding day, all guests will be required to take an antigen test and complete our Guest Health Questionnaire, as well as a possible secondary health screening, if needed. A positive test result, or documented symptoms of communicable disease during these screenings will result in denial of boarding.

    • Do I need to quarantine / isolate before the cruise?

      For your safety and the safety of your fellow guests and crew, we strongly recommend that in the week leading up to your departure date, you monitor yourself for symptoms and engage in healthy COVID-19 prevention practices, as outlined by U.S. CDC.

    The ability to visit smaller ports and off-the-beaten-path destinations is just one advantage of cruising with Azamara, but our commitment to community consciousness and personal wellness is our promise to provide peace-of-mind and safety while you travel with us.     FAQs

    • How do you decide if it is safe for the ship to visit a destination?

      We will continuously monitor ports of call on our itineraries, with the intent to minimize the risk to our guests, our crew, and the communities we visit. We will make a determination based on several prerequisites, including the prevalence of COVID-19, local community vaccination rates, and access to vaccinations at those destinations.

    • Will I be required to purchase an Azamara shore excursion while visiting ports of call?

      We strongly recommend you book an Azamara Shore Excursion that operates with the same health protocols we employ onboard for your peace of mind. We have also suspended our shuttle service. In some destinations where either local authorities or current conditions require, you will need to purchase an Azamara tour to go ashore. Both group and private experiences are available.       Views on independent exploration by international visitors vary by country and by port of call and can change on short notice. All port specific information will be provided during your journey by the onboard crew. ​

    • What is the shore excursion policy if anyone in the traveling party is unvaccinated?

      All guests 12 years and older are required to be vaccinated.
