After a brief tour of Bodo, continue through the picturesque landscape toward Saltstraumen, the narrow strait that links Saltfjord with the larger Skjerstadfjord. This is home to the world's strongest tidal current, with up to 400 million tons of seawater forcing its way through a 1.8-mile-long and 0.9-mile-wide strait every six hours—it's a natural phenomenon. During the strongest currents, whirlpools of up to 32 feet in diameter and 16 feet deep form. You may witness this phenomenon from the water's edge or from the bridge that spans the strait, depending on the time of day. You'll then proceed to the Magic Saltstraumen Experience Center to learn more about this natural phenomenon in an explanatory multimedia film. Refuel with coffee and homemade Norwegian waffles, and enjoy the beautiful vista from inside or on one of the outside benches. En route back to Bodo, you'll make a stop at Ronvikfjellet for an incredible panoramic view of the city.
