Stroll through Luderitz's historic streets on this guided walk to the town's landmarks. Luderitz is an isolated town perched on a windswept rocky hill beside the bay. Bartolomeu Dias was the first European navigator to find the bay on his homeward voyage from the southern tip of Africa. For many years, the region remained an obscure place to drop anchor, until Adolf Luderitz, a tobacco merchant from Germany, purchased the bay and colonized the area. You'll enjoy a two-hour guided walk past the colonial-style German buildings that reflect the town's early history. Admire the domes, towers, turrets, steep roofs, gables, bay windows, and sun rooms. See the grand "diamond palace" of Goerke Haus. Photograph the beautiful Vertical Gothic-style Felsenkirche, known for its magnificent woodwork and stained glass windows. You'll also visit the Luderitz Museum where you'll learn more about diamond mining in the region and the town's vibrant past.
See the Goerke Haus, a "diamond palace," or grand residence, dating back to 1909, and decorated with period furniture.
Visit the Felsenkirche, a German Evangelical Lutheran Church perched on Luderitz's rocks.
Learn about Luderitz's flora, fauna, history, and ethnology at the Luderitz Museum.
