What our Azamara® cruisers have to say

Whether it’s an email from one of our guests, a blog by an international travel expert, or a note of thanks from James Bond himself, Sir Roger Moore, the reviews for Azamara® continue to be outstanding. Here are just a few of them.

Learn more about one guest's experience on his Azamara cruise in Asia - as seen on CBS Sunday Morning.

"Some of the places we’ve touched on are completely new to us, and it was a real experience. ... I had an excellent time on Azamara; it was certainly the best cruise I've ever had. ... It's our first with Azamara, but it's our cruise number 26, so I'm giving it quite a fine opinion."

  • Wow...Wow...Wow...And a little bit more Wow!

We have done 17 cruises in the past 12 years and this was our favorite by far. To set the scene, we are a couple mid 30s, no children, looking for a destination intensive itinerary with like-minded travelers & longer stays in ports.

I loved the fact that the Quest ported everywhere it went, whilst the other luxury boats (Silverseas, etc.)...they also left by 4-5pm, and we were still in port until 10pm, even once overnight which was fantastic!! We got to watch a sunset in every city we visited. AzAmazing Event was spectacular and so well organised. I also loved the White Night. Our cabin was brilliant. The bed was huge & faced the TV which I really enjoyed because after a long day of exploring I like to come back and relax with a movie. Not only that, but it was the most comfortable bed I’ve had at sea.

As we disembarked, I felt very teary. I just felt like this was our most wonderful voyage yet. I cannot wait to go again. really can’t go wrong!!

  • Great Ship and Fantastic Itinerary

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8-day cruise from Barcelona to Rome on the Quest. The size of the ship (~700 passengers) and the itinerary were the main reason for choosing this trip along with a reco from our travel agent who has booked many happy clients on Azamara. We never had to wait in line or worry about not getting a seat in the cabaret lounge for any of the shows or a lounge chair by the pool.

Everyone on the crew was so nice and accommodating. Our cabin was kept spotless. The food was excellent. The White Night party on the deck overlooking Monaco was amazing. The huge buffet and entertaining evening filled with music and dancing was fantastic. The AzAmazing evening event in Valencia was like a Spanish mini-Cirque du Soleil in a fantastic venue. This event is what differentiates Azamara from other cruise lines in that this event was on shore and so well organized with 16 busloads from the ship, but didn't cost anything extra.

This was our 1st cruise on Azamara, and we will definitely consider Azamara again for a future trip.

  • 1st Azamara Cruise—Won’t Be Our Last

We hadn’t cruised in years and only on larger ships (which we didn't like), when a friend recommended Azamara. We chose this cruise for the itinerary and it didn't disappoint. Embarkation in Venice was incredibly smooth (took all of 10 minutes) and we were soon on board and enjoying lunch. We had an aft balcony cabin that was comfortable and had plenty of storage. Our cabin attendants kept it all spotless.

We found the food to be very good...the Chef's Table is really not to be missed. Outstanding! We only booked 1 ship-sponsored excursion, but it was a great one—at Dubrovnik, an excursion to the town of Ston, about an hour away for an oyster and mussel tasting, followed by a fabulous seafood lunch.

We were struck by the friendliness of both the passengers and the crew. It was easy to meet people and because of the small size of the ship, one would tend to see the same people frequently. I feel like I have forged some lasting friendships.

  • We’re spoiled forever and ever!

Our entire group had a wonderful time on our 11-Night Greece & Holy Lands cruise on the Azamara Journey last October. It’s safe to say that we’re spoiled forever and ever!

Now that we have sailed with Azamara, we’ve told everyone we know that Azamara is the only way to go.

The staff and crew never quit smiling and never stopped moving. If they were in uniform and on their feet, they were moving & doing for the passengers onboard! We have cruised on most of the major cruise lines; however, after experiencing the Azamara Journey, the quality of the food, accommodations, and service, the thought of being on a different cruise line is a depressing thought. Awesome cruise experience!

One couple from our group booked a future Azamara cruise, the June 2019 9-Night Baltic Capitals & Russia Voyage while still on the ship! As for us, we’re getting ready and excited for our 11-Night Baltic Voyage cruise on August 19, 2018.

Thank you so much Azamara Gang for all that you do for us. We know we are spoiled by the best of the best.

Warmest & Best Wishes to you and yours,

    Gary Johnson

  • Memorable family vacation

We wish to express our gratitude for helping facilitate a private tour of the Azamara Quest bridge on our recent cruise. It was fascinating to see the technology and sophistication needed in order to operate the ship, and a real pleasure to interact directly with the dedicated crew who make everything function so smoothly.

There really are not enough kind superlatives to describe our experience over the 9 days we were aboard the Quest. All aspects—from the beautiful destinations and iconic sites, the exciting shore excursions, the friendly and attentive staff, the fine dining, the cleanliness of the ship and our quarters—it was truly a top-notch vacation. The AzAmazing evening in Ravenna, featuring an Italian jazz orchestra in the Teatro Alighieri, was spectacular! And even in their younger age, our daughters enjoyed themselves every bit as much as their parents.

Again, special thanks to you and the employees of Azamara for making our family vacation one of the most memorable of our lives.

  • One of Our Best Azamara Cruises

This was definitely one of our best Azamara cruises and thanks to the wonderful officers and crew for making it so special. We met up with friends old and new and had so much fun, helped by the glorious weather and the consumption of bubbles! :D

I am looking at the 2017 itineraries today and can't wait to book my next Azamara cruise. For anyone thinking about their first Azamara cruise....then stop thinking and book it, because you will have a wonderful time.

  • A Wonderful Experience

This was our first cruise with Captain Jose and he impressed with his qualities of leadership and of humour. Often he did his best to make certain that the impressive vistas were accessible from all sides of the ship. Overall, the staff exhibited the best team work we have experienced on any cruise, so kudos to the Captain, HD Philip Herbert, CD Russ Grieve and the HR Manager Tracie Jones.

  • Authentic Tourism at its Best!

I am writing to you to congratulate your organizations, for supporting the Otternes historical homes and farm.

This letter of support represents ten individuals from five different countries that had the opportunity to visit the historical property on August 15,2016. We are a group that includes business executives, CEOs, professors and doctors.

We were moved by our three hour farm experience and believe it offers both tourists and young people a once in a life time authentic experience with the Norwegian history and its people.

Laila Kuellestad was our host and told stories that made history come alive! We tasted the food of the region and were forever changed by the way our host shared her knowledge and heart at the property.

We all agreed that the future and history of this region is best shared in children's authentic educational programs such as this one.

Again, congratulations on your foresight and support of one of the best authentic tourism experiences we have ever experienced.

  • A great birthday surprise

    Dear Captain Tysse,

What a surprise when you announced that it was my birthday and an even greater surprise was when you said you were turning the ship around so that I could see the sunset. How special and unbelievable!!

I will always have the wonderful memories of my birthday on the Azamara Journey.

Thank you for coming to wish me a happy birthday in person and for doing such an extraordinarily nice thing for me.

  • A unique approach to cruising

Azamara is a small ship with a unique approach to cruising. Azamara loves the little things. It loves places and people, odd and different, interesting and just plain bonkers, it says you can be who you want to be, you can make friends from over 20 nationalities, or nothing if that is what you want, you can find that secret place and relax with a mosaic coffee, or something more buzzy. It is your choice!

Azamara loves people and it loves its loyal guests so much so that it proves it with a gift. That is a gift of promise, a promise of loyalty for that future cruise, with love, Azamara.

  • The best cruise ever!

Azamara was so much more than a traditional cruise, it was an experience I will never forget! The Azamara team was first class, the service was like no other, food was spectacular (especially Prime C) and of course Cruise Director Russ has an incredible energy that I will never forget. For the record, I usually find something wrong and I truly can't with Azamara.

I look forward to joining the "Club"! You have a repeat client and I will share my wonderful experience with everyone I know.

  • 308 Countries, One AzAmazing Voyage

I truly did enjoy my time on the Azamara Journey and hope to go back on the Journey or perhaps the other ship, the Quest, at some point. They travel the whole world and hope to expand their fleet in the near future. I look forward to watching the progress of Azamara and after having the chance to meet and interact with the great people who lead it, I know they will do great things in the cruise industry...

  • AzAmazing Evenings - Wow! Wow! and Wow again!

Having sailed on Azamara several times I can categorically say that it is a fantastic luxury experience both at sea and ashore! The ships themselves are elegantly done with beautifully appointed cabins and lots charming spaces to sip coffee (or champagne!), chat with friends or read a book. The crew is always smiling and eager to assist guests in any way - whether it is their department or not. The food in all the dining rooms is excellent and the Specialty restaurants, Prime C and Aqualina, rival any fine dining establishment in New York. I love the extended stays in port (and the fact that there are so many unusual ports!) especially when it is for several day as it really lets see an area in depth - not the usual whiz through that most cruises have. As for the Azamazing Evenings - Wow! Wow! and Wow again! No wonder the repeat passenger percentages are so high!

  • An Inspirational Journey

I know that Maeve updated you on our FABULOUS Holy Land cruise on the Azamara Journey, but I personally wanted to say what a moving and "Inspiration Journey" it was. Israel was much more fascinating than I ever dreamed and has already impacted my life in so many positive ways. I even have a client coming in next week because her son is headed to Haifa to study aboard for six months and I can now intelligently speak with them about the country! There wasn't a bad moment of the entire 12-day cruise. Even our rainy days were great; we ducked into a local coffee shop in Turkey and no one spoke English except another customer (very little), a young girl studying American History and traveling to the US next year for school. So we were chatting and even began Facebook friends! I hope to travel again on Azamara—and as a travel agent, I am proud to represent this product!

  • Singing Azamara's Praises—Loudly!

"Azamara is a true destination experience because of the longer port stays. I think that is what sets them apart. I've admired this concept since Azamara instituted it, but having lived it, I'm now singing its praises—loudly! It made all the difference to our experience. Arriving in port at 8:00 AM and not leaving until after 10:00 PM gave us the flexibility to really enjoy the destinations the way we wanted. Dancing into the wee hours in Ibiza; standing on the bridge with our sons as we docked in Trapani; it's difficult to pick a favorite moment. I think we only ate on the ship the first night—the rest of the time we went to awesome local places. Traveling as a multi-generational group could have been challenging given our different needs for recreation, entertainment and dining. But the warm and professional service onboard made everyone's trip memorable."

  • The Reasons Why We're Loyal "Azamarians"

There is no doubt that the reason we return is Azamara's exceptional staff. Every member of the crew provides excellent service. Ships have their features and facilities but the people who work them make the difference.

On our first Azamara voyage, after a long trip from Alexandria to Cairo, upon arriving back at the Quest we found Hotel Director, Heike, waiting for us on the pier to advise us that the dining room hours had been extended to accommodate our late arrival. On most cruise lines at that hour, pizza or room service would have been the only options. At that moment we knew we would be returning to Azamara many times.

When we return, the staff greets us with "Welcome home," which has become the standard greeting for returning guests on Azamara. On embark day on a recent cruise, as we walked the pool deck, other guests noted that staff members were stopping to say hello to us and they asked if we were somehow associated with Azamara. We told them we were indeed associated with Azamara, as guests just as they were. We assured them that if they returned for another cruise, they would be remembered as well.

In a cruise industry increasingly dominated by ever-larger vessels, we firmly believe smaller ships offer a much better experience.

On an Azamara cruise, Captains and Cruise Directors have been known to take guests on walking/hiking tours. One Captain might offer a stargazing event on the bow late one night. Another Captain might stop to fish off the coast of Iceland. The Food and Beverage Manager may go ashore and purchase seafood at the local fish market and arrange for it to be prepared and served that evening.

Azamara offers an exceptional food experience both in terms of variety and quality in the main dining room and specialty restaurants. There are no long lines at the buffet or at the entrance to the dining room. There are no long lines for the tender boats when they are required. Embark/Disembark is efficient and easy. Large ships in our experience cannot provide these things.

These are some of the reasons we are loyal "Azamarians." We anticipate another "Welcome home" on our two homes at sea, when we embark on Azamara Journey in November 2012 and Azamara Quest in March 2013.

  • James Bond Is Stirred, Not Shaken, By Azamara

“Kristina and I cannot sum up in words just how heavenly, luxurious and enjoyable our Norwegian cruise with Azamara (Azamara Journey) was this summer (2011). From the initial inquiry to the booking and arrival where Captain Johannes made us so welcome—and has since become a good friend—we could not have wished for better.

Heike (Hotel Manager) ensured our every need was catered for and brilliantly organized and handled our little Q and A session, ensuring everyone who wanted had a photograph with this old English actor. You have a great team. We are most definitely going to return next year.”

  • The Crew Were Exceptional They Could Not Do Enough For Us And You Can Tell They Are Happy In Their Roles.

Captain Carl Smith certainly knows his stuff and is a credit to Azamara. He was often present around the ship and we had the privilege of dining with him one evening. He is a great ambassador for Azamara. He was able to swap days in Santorini and Mykonos, which meant we did not have to be in port with 1,000s of others (would have been eight ships in Santorini on the day we were due in).

In Mykonos we enjoyed a day at the beach until 7:00 PM came…back on board, had a bite to eat, then went back ashore for the sunset. As you know you cannot do this when the ship sails at 5:00 PM. Please please, please keep those late/overnights in the itineraries. I know they will—it is what Azamara is all about.

Treated ourselves to the Evening Concert in Ephesus…what a wonderful experience. There had been 16,000 people there during the day; we were just 90, so special. When we came back to the ship, Philip the hotel director was waiting to greet us and refreshments were laid out. A great touch and much appreciated.

  • Why Is The Azamara Line Such A Great Product, You Say?

Look no further than the ship’s personnel. That is one of the main reasons why our clients come back and book on the Azamara ships—the staffing is phenomenal!

What other line can say their crew immerse themselves with cultural information about the visiting ports-of-call? Who gives first-rate personal service 7/24? Who is there to take care of the “little things” when needed?

Bottom line is a ship’s staff can easily make the difference in your voyage; they make it a much more pleasant and enjoyable experience!

  • Six Stars For Azamara

The service on board was superb!!!! From our cabin steward, to the waiters, bus boys, maitre'd. All were amazing, all with a friendly smile, greeting us at every chance. Truly the service was SIX Star!! In fact, I would say the service on this ship was superior to that of Regent’s (which I have been on five or six times). Well done!

  • Azamara Anticipates Everything!

Little things made such a difference like the champagne upon embarkation, the cold towels, the officers waiting at the gangway and the friendly smiles by the crew. The food in the Discovery Restaurant was unbelievably delicious and the service ....the best he has experienced at sea. Unpretentious elegance all around!

They spent a full night in Bordeaux and the photo opportunities at night were phenomenal. Staying overnight is truly heaven for a photographer. Eric de Gray was astounding! Captain Johannes is the most delightful human being Gig has ever met. He was amazed at the fact that they never heard a "bitch" on the entire cruise from any guest; and after 75 cruises that has never happened before. Gig has traveled to 320 countries and he was absolutely amazed at the experience. The best cruise ever taken!

  • It Was Fabulous.

First and foremost, I wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our recent cruise on Quest. It was FABULOUS (even better than last year, IF that is possible). We were upgraded to a Club Ocean Suite on the front of the ship—we loved the large port-hole above the desk, and the suite was perfect for entertaining the other two couples that sailed with us.

We also love the longer times in port—it totally differentiates Azamara from all the others and the service onboard was outstanding. Our butler, Melvin, was superb, as were our stateroom attendants (Richard and Russell). The Captain really went out of his way to take care of his guests, as did Philip the hotel manager. The cruise director was great…we could go on and on, but wanted to share with you our experience. We filled out the comment card but wanted you to know as well, in case you ever want “testimonials”!

    All the best,

  • An AzAmazing Evening!

It was obvious a lot of thought and planning went into the event. A first class evening that will be a tough act to follow. A great success and much more than we expected. We look forward to more AzAmazing evenings on our next cruises.
