HISTORICAL INFORMATION
- Thanks to the efforts of more than 80,000 workers, the Panama Canal was completed in 1914.
- Construction happened in two phases, the first between 1830-1893 by a French company, and a second phase by an American company from 1904-1914.
- There are three sets of locks along the canal: the Gatun, the Pedro Miguel, and the Miraflores.

- The Panama Canal is 48 miles (77 kilometers) in length, connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific.
- There are approximately 14,000 ships that pass through every year, with an average number of 40 ships crossing daily.
- On average, it takes eight to 10 hours to transit the Panama Canal.
