Explore Antalya, the Pearl of the Mediterranean
“Paradise on Earth.” “The Turkish Riviera.” “The Pearl of the Mediterranean.” Antalya may go by many names, but one thing is certain: There’s so much to discover in this sunny, seaside city, you’re going to have to plan strategically.
You could easily spend a week strolling through the winding, narrow streets of Kaleiçi. The old quarter is home to a treasure trove of historic and archaeological sites including Hadrian’s Gate, the Clock Tower, and numerous mosques and minarets, as well as countless shops, stalls, and restaurants.
However, be sure to carve out some time to hop on a gulet, one of the traditional wooden boats docked along the harbor. There are plenty of charters available, and a leisurely sail past the Düden Waterfalls with an ice-cold beverage in hand is a beautiful way to relax. (Two things to note: Don’t be afraid to haggle on price, and don’t expect departure times to run on schedule.) And an absolute must? Getting ice cream from one of the local vendors. Not only will it be a sweet treat on a gorgeous day, but the way it’s served is a performance in itself!
