Immerse yourself in the traditions of Japanese arts and crafts before visiting the Ryugeji Temple, set in the shadows of spectacular Mount Fuji. Your day begins with a scenic drive to Sunpu Takumishuku, where local artisans practice traditions that have been passed down in Shizuoka for generations. Many of these experts are quite happy to let you try your own skills at their timeless crafts, and we've arranged for the rare opportunity to shave and polish your very own set of chopsticks for a truly one of a kind keepsake. From Sunpu Takumishuku, a short drive leads to the Ryugeji Temple. Step inside this Buddhist treasure of the Nichiren sect, dating back to the early Edo period. Learn about its history, including how its 300-year-old cacti were brought from Shanghai. Enjoy a cup of Japanese tea and savor local sweets as you gaze out at the temple's beautiful gardens.
