A local guide leads a tour inside the Colosseum, a two thousand-year-old amphitheater known for its marvelous architecture and engineering. At the height of its popularity, the Colosseum seated up to 55,000 spectators who roared as gladiators, usually slaves, fought each other or wild animals, often to the death. A short stroll ends up at the Roman Forum, a plaza surrounded by ruins of ancient Rome. See old Senate buildings and the old market. From the ruins of the ancient city, you’ll arrive at Piazza Navona. This charming square exudes a relaxed atmosphere and features beautiful architecture within its church and fountain before enjoying an Italian lunch and some time at leisure in the Eternal City.

Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 miles over even and uneven and cobblestone surfaces. This tour is not recommended for guests who use a wheelchair or with walking difficulties. Guests needing specail assistance must be accompanied by an able bodied companion.The drive from Civitavecchia to Rome is approximately 1 hour and a half, subject to traffic.
Please note the Italian Minister of Tourism limits the number of guests allowed in the Colosseum at once. As a consequence of this new rule the access of groups with reservations may be stopped and delayed. For security reasons there is a metal detector check before entering the Colosseum & Roman Forum. It is strictly forbidden to enter with backpacks, suitcases, trolleys and large bags /objects. Please be aware that lockers are NOT available at the above mentioned sites.
Due to new regulations established by the Minister of Tourism, on the first Sunday of each month and other random dates the entrance to the Colosseum / Roman Forum cannot be granted. Should your guide foresee that the queue at the Colosseum / Roman Forum is longer than a 45-minute wait, you will forego the interior visit of the Colosseum / Roman Forum and you will be provided with a full explanation and description while outside and free time to compensate for not entering the Colosseum / Roman Forum. The Roman Forum IS NOT wheelchair accessible.
The order of the tour may be reversed or altered depending on traffic or local conditions, but always covering the mentioned sites. On Sundays and public holidays the majority of the shops will be closed –only souvenir shops will be open.
Guests will receive emergency contact numbers, and headsets for guide's commentary during bus ride to Rome.Guests will have approx 2 hrs free time for independent exploration.
Guests failing to meet guide at designated time must arrange their own transportation back to ship.
Guests wishing to visit St. Peter’s Basilica during the free time are advised that should a mass or a special event be taking place in St. Peter's Basilica, entrance may be restricted. Depending upon the number of people in the Basilica, it may be closed for security reasons without previous notice.
Guests may be required to check large bags, backpacks, video cameras, and/or personal water bottles at designated check points.
Please note that special celebrations and events will take place at St. Peter’s Basilica: overcrowding and possible closures at any given time and with no previous notice should be expected.
Due to new traffic regulations in Rome, large buses have limited access to the city center, and some additional walking will be required to access the main venues.Should the designed bus drop-off/pick-up point for St. Peter's Basilica be congested or unavailable, an alternative will be used. Please note an additional walk of 0.6 miles from/to the alternative location should be considered.
