Experience the Marvelous Mediterranean

Where better to begin an intensive journey of the Mediterranean than mythical, legendary Athens?  Take advantage of one of our many Land Programs and arrive a few days early and step back through millennia at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Arch of Hadrian, Ancient Agora, and the Acropolis.

On the stunning island of Santorini, sip fine Greek wines, and explore the 3,500-year-old Minoan town of Akrotiri to discover the island’s explosive past. Next, it’s on to Chania and its Venetian harbor, Minoan ruins, Byzantine churches, and the amazing Samaria Gorge.

After a relaxing day at sea, arrive in Sorrento—where a short but steep hike to the top of the town’s cliffs is paid off with spectacular views. Don’t miss Capri’s sparkling Blue Grotto.  A late stay here means time to enjoy  enjoy a dinner of Gnocchi alla Sorrentina—pillowy potato dumplings baked in a cheesy tomato sauce. Italian comfort food at its finest.

Next is an overnight stay in Florence—full of art, architecture, palaces, churches, and museums. Then it’s on to Villefranche-sur-Mer, France near Nice. Meander the Promenade des Anglais, explore the Old Town, visit the fragrant flower market with another late stay.

We conclude our journey in brilliant Barcelona. Marvel at Ricardo Bofill's post modernist National Theater of Catalonia, an imaginative combination of classical and modern design, with a greenhouse-like lobby.
