UNCOVER GRECIAN WONDERS
Your journey begins in one of the world’s oldest cities, Athens, where endless ancient wonders await. Next up is the old Venetian port of Chania, Crete. Stroll through the old city and see how it has been touched by the intersection of diverse civilizations throughout history, with a mixture of Greek, Venetian, and Ottoman influences on every corner: Minoan ruins, Byzantine churches, and impressive frescos.
Awake the next morning for a late stay in Santorini, which means plenty of time to head south to the 3,500-year-old Minoan town Akrotiri. The well-preserved ruins provide a glimpse into Santorini’s storied (and explosive) past.
Continue your immersion with a late stay on historic Rhodes. You’ll feel transported back in time visiting the Acropolis of Lindos, or the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, wandering through ruins that date back centuries.
Next up is the easternmost of the Cyclades, Amorgos. Inhabited since ancient times, Minoan tombs and towers dot the countryside, shipwrecks teeter on secluded beaches, and massive monasteries emerge from rock faces. Don’t miss the Olympia shipwreck—a commercial ship run aground in 1980 that now sits in two pieces in the shallow water.
Journey on for another late stay to the tiny island of Patmos—a place of deep importance for Christianity. It’s where the last book of the New Testament was allegedly written by Saint John, and where an air of mystery still hangs over the island—not unlike the misty fog that seems to be ever-present just off the shore.
Your final late night is in Mykonos—vibrant and cosmopolitan, with a penchant for all-night parties and hedonistic good times. By day, stroll along the maze-like cobblestone streets, exploring artists’ shops and enjoying a glass or two of ouzo. As soon as the sun goes down, it’s time to let loose. For a slower pace, explore ancient Delos, where you can visit the beautiful beaches by traditional kaiki, or journey over to uninhabited Rhenia Island.
Spend a day and night relaxing aboard your boutique hotel at sea before debarking in İstanbul, Turkey. Truly one of the world’s great cities, İstanbul is supremely exotic, warmly welcoming, and utterly unique. After all, where else can you tour Europe and Asia on the very same afternoon?
