The coastal town of Alesund is one of Norway's largest fishing harbors with a rich and lively history. Devastated by fire in 1904, Alesund is now one of the few Art Nouveau towns in the world, with amazing decorations and colorful façades. You'll visit the Sunnmore Museum, a folk museum that stories the Norwegian coastal culture, with 50 well-preserved buildings that display the various architectural styles and lifestyles from the Middle Ages through to the early 20th century. The boat collection is also of great interest—the old Sunnmore boats were considered to be the most seaworthy vessels on the Norwegian coast and can be seen in the large exhibit hall at the museum pier. Another feature is the old Borgund Church. On your return to Alesund, drive up to Mount Aksla. Rising high above the city center, there's a splendid view of the town, the skerries and right across to the Sunnmore mountains, with a pathway leading down to the center. Guests who would like to exercise, may return to the ship by foot.
