Day One: Relax on a panoramic two-hour drive that takes you from the ship to Petra. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to the acclaimed Moevenpick Hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to either unwind with a cocktail or perhaps do a little exploring around the area. Come dinner time, join the group for a sumptuous buffet feast at the hotel. Savor fish, chicken, pasta, fresh breads and a variety of sweets for dessert. Get to know your fellow history enthusiasts and feel free to ask any questions about the big adventure that awaits on day two. Get a good night’s sleep in preparation for your archeological expedition to the ancient city of Petra.
Day Two: Begin an unforgettable day of discovery with a visit to “Little Petra”. Once a suburb of the ancient city and a center of agriculture, you can still see the dams and cisterns that provided essential water to the crops. From here, it’s off to Petra. Reaching the ancient city, however, is no easy task. Petra is isolated in a valley encircled by craggy mountains, and to get there you’ll hike through the “Siq”, a narrow gorge set in the shadows of the great mountain walls. During the trek, you’ll pass the remains of old water channels and Nabataean carvings until, suddenly, you emerge into the bright sunlight to find the Red Rose City. Before you stands the great Treasury, an ancient tomb carved into a cliff face and once reputed to hold an ancient treasure. From here, your guide will lead an archeological walk that reveals Petra in all her glory. Visit the ancient Roman Theater, which once held 3,000 citizens. Walk the main colonnade, witness the Royal Tombs, and view the partially resorted Temple of Qasr Al Bint. After the tour, return to the hotel for well-earned lunch, having just experienced one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
Enjoy a guided walking tour through the ruins of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Learn about the history of this remote city and hear tales of its legendary treasure.
Witness landmarks including the great Treasury, Royal Tombs, Roman Theater and more.
