An Unforgettable Journey

Explore the beauty of the sunny Canary Islands and Portugal on this unforgettable cruise with Azamara. The journey begins in Gran Canaria, where a third of the island is under protection as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Spend the day aboard your boutique hotel at sea, then wake up the next morning for an overnight stay Funchal (Madeira), Portugal. Visit the Funchal Cathedral and Old Town (Zona Velha), take in panoramic vistas from the Monte Cable Car, and sample superb Portuguese cuisine paired with Madeira wines.

Then, it’s off to a late-night stay in Lanzarote, where the secret natural swimming pools of Los Charcones and lava fields of Timanfaya National Park await. On the spectacular coastline of Fuerteventura, stroll along La Concha beach, discover the immense Corralejo dune field, or meander the 15th century cobbled streets of Betancuria.

Next, it’s a late stay in La Palma, aptly nicknamed “the pretty island”. Hike through Caldera de Taburiente National Park, followed by a refreshing dip in the natural swimming hole of Charco Azul. In La Estaca, traverse the famous Camino de Jinama—an old route once used by the island’s inhabitants—and be sure to try a quesadilla (which is not what you think, but a delicious dessert made with the island’s traditional cheese, eggs, aniseed, lemon peel, sugar, and cinnamon).

Enjoy another late stay in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. Relax on the beaches at Los Gigantes or take a walk through Santa Cruz (be sure to sample some local tapas along the way). On La Gomera Island, you can explore the enchanted and misty forest of Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The voyage ends with an overnight stay in Gran Canaria. Go to the old city center of Vegueta, visit the Caldera de Bandama in Gran Canaria’s wine country, or head to Tejeda for the rock formation of Roque Nublo and stunning views.
