Albany’s Whaling Past

Book This Shore Excursion
Starting from €103,01 EUR / Adult
Experience a realistic, and often disturbing, look at Albany’s whaling past from within an actual station where the industry was practiced until 1978. The Albany Historic Whaling Station on Flinders Peninsula is a stunning museum faithfully depicts the good, bad, brave and ugly aspects of an industry that once supported and entire community. Enjoy a 30-minute guided tour before enjoying time to explore independently. Marvel at the world’s largest collection of original marine mammal paintings by famed New York artist, Richard Ellis. Learn about the history of whaling, it’s vital role in growing Albany, and its eventual ban in Australia. Afterwards, set out to experience some of Western Australia’s most majestic sights. Walk along the trails of Torndirrup National Park to view “The Gap”, a sheer granite crevasse formed by pounding surf, and witness the Natural Bridge, a massive stone arch shaped by the elements of nature.
  • Witness some of the most scenic views and majestic rock formations in Western Australia.
  • Explore the whaling history of Albany, a town once entirely supported by the now abandoned hunt.
  • Experience an unfiltered look at the industry from inside this museum that, until 1978, was a working whaling station.
