Thessaloniki, has always been a bustling metropolis, and its storied history is evident through its varied architectural forms, dating from the Hellenistic era to the late 20th century. You will drive through the city with your guide pointing out significant sites like the White Tower—the city's symbol—as well as the International Trade Fair grounds, the University campus, the Gallerius Arch, the Rotunda, the citadel, and the city walls. After your overview of the city, your guide will take you to St. Demetrius' Church. Originally built in the 5th century AD, this double-aisled basilica is one of the largest and finest examples of early Byzantine architecture in the world. You'll then move onto the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, one of the largest museums in Greece and the central museum of northern Greece, where you'll have the opportunity to explore its unique collections of ancient artifacts before being escorted back to the ship.
