The German Occupation of Guernsey

Book This Shore Excursion
Starting from $133.33 NZD / Adult
Feel the magnitude of war and hear stories of brave resistance and terrible hardship that define Guernsey’s five years of Nazi occupation. Germany occupied the island from 1940 to 1945, and signs of those dark days still remain. One of the most significant is La Valette Underground Military Museum. Once a fuel storage bunker for German U-Boats, it today tells the story of the war years and their impact on islanders. See Nazi weaponry, communications equipment, and propaganda papers. Afterwards, drive to Pleinmont Headland to see its intact German observation tower. Take in panoramic views of the coastline, and see the Battery Dol-man and its giant gun. From here, wind along the coastline to Vazon Bay for a photo opportunity and exterior visit at Fort Hommet, a former Nazi stronghold. It’s impossible not to admire the resilience of Guernsey and her people after this excursion.
  • Explore the fascinating La Valette Underground Military Museum that tells the story of Guernsey’s war-torn years.
  • Learn about the strategic importance of the Channel Islands to Adolf Hitler during WWII.
  • See the German observation tower at Pleinmont Headland for sweeping views of the coast-line.
