A farewell to Chef Monica Ortiz

March 2, 2020 was my last voyage on the Azamara Pursuit, a 21 day cruise that took a turn for the unexpected as the entire world was headed into a global pandemic. That final cruise exemplified what the Azamara team is capable of when challenged. We somehow managed to make the best out of the worst circumstances and our guests left with such amazing memories. As several of us consider Azamara to be our first home, we had to continue life in 2020 without our sea legs and revamp our new normal. That brings me to life at home in Texas, a place that I would visit in between contracts to see family and friends. This past year has given me the opportunity to develop stronger connections with my family and community. The chance made me realize that there is another chapter in my life that I would like to focus on and that being building a family. This is why, with a heavy heart, I will not be returning to service in 2021.
Throughout my 11 years with Azamara, I have seen many changes; from being one of the 3 women in the galley in 2010 to assisting with the opening of our newest ship, the Azamara Pursuit. The ship that we all longed for. Some of the best memories of my life have been while working onboard, meeting my husband being one of them. I am grateful for the friendships that have been created with not only crew but with guests and that is why we have always said Azamara is like a family. We have travelled all over the world together and experienced the unthinkable. As I continue life on land I will also continue to follow and support Azamara’s new adventures. I wish the new transition with Sycamore Partners well. Thank you all for making my time with Azamara a true joy and pleasure. “Our home away from home”
