The gateway to awe-inspiring scenery
Hualien is the starting point for the amazing journey to majestic Taroko National Park, and some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. Within the park the landscape rises from rugged cliffs at sea level through subtropical forests, and on to coniferous woodlands at the higher elevations. The tallest peaks soar to 11,000 feet.
This mostly undisturbed wilderness is a haven for a variety of wildlife, including deer, boar, bear, and many birds, some of which are unique to Taiwan. Taroko Gorge is a 12-mile long canyon of towering marble walls with swirls and veins in striking shades.
