Where the Scattered Are Brought Together
The stories about Bermuda are true: The sand is pink, the water an irresistible turquoise, and the traffic in Hamilton is indeed directed by constables wearing—you guessed it—Bermuda shorts. Hamilton has its own unique style, and is full of pastel-hued historic buildings, lush parks and gardens, set alongside a natural harbor. Front St. is the pulse of Hamilton and many of the stately Victorian buildings have been converted into shops, boutiques, and restaurants where you can dine on fresh seafood or sip a dark and stormy—Bermuda’s official drink—while watching the comings and goings of the picturesque harbor.
But to truly experience the beauty of Bermuda, head just outside of town to explore the scenic countryside. Golfers will want to tee up on the eight golf courses on the island, where par may vary but the breathtaking views are consistent. Other jewels of nature include illuminated caves adorned with crystal stalactites and stalagmites surrounding clear azure lakes.
After just a few hours on this idyllic place, you’ll understand why Mark Twain famously said, “You go to heaven if you want—I’d rather stay here in Bermuda.”
