Day 1: Journey from Richard's Bay to the Phinda Private Game Reserve, located in the lush Maputaland region of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, bordering the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Phinda boasts seven distinct habitats, home to abundant African wildlife. When you reach the main entrance gate of the private game reserve, meet your ranger who will transfer you to the lodge in rugged, open 4x4 vehicles. Receive a welcome drink and check into the lodge, followed by a delicious light lunch. Afterward, you'll be shown to your spectacular suite. Enjoy your own private veranda overlooking the bush, with an outdoor shower and plunge pool. Breathe in the fresh mountain air. Freshen up for afternoon tea on the patio, after which you'll hop aboard your 4x4 for an open-air game drive. As dusk falls on the African bush, keep on the watch for Africa's big five: leopards, lions, rhinos, elephants, and buffalos. When darkness falls, your rangers will use spotlights to track nocturnal animals and carnivores on the hunt. Enjoy sundowners and light snacks before returning to the lodge for dinner beside the crackling fire. Tuck into bed for a relaxing night in your luxury suite. Day 2: Wake before dawn to the smell of brewing coffee and steeping tea. Enjoy tea, coffee, and biscuits in the lounge area before joining your ranger for a sunrise safari. Your ranger will search for tracks left in the night. As the sun rises, illuminating dew-covered branches and grasslands, go in search of Africa's dawn creatures. Learn about the seven distinct habitats that comprise the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park. Have your binoculars ready to spot some of the 380 bird species that call the wetland home. The coastal rainfall pattern results in a lush green environment that shelters abundant wildlife. Your morning safari gives you yet another opportunity to see Africa's big five, as well as the elusive cheetah and the rare black rhino. After your morning safari, return to the lodge for a sumptuous breakfast before packing up. Enjoy a scenic 4-wheel drive through the wilderness to the entrance gate, before transferring to a coach for your drive to Durban to re-join your cruise.
