Explore the legend and life of Magellan in Punta Arenas on this visit to local museums and a viewpoint overlooking Magellan's famous strait. Only eighteen people survived Magellan's famous 1519 expedition, which circumnavigated the globe and put Tierra del Fuego on the European map. Admire a life-sized replica of Magellan's ship at the Nao Victoria Museum. Learn about the structural features and touch everyday objects used aboard the ship, including navigation instruments and artillery. Then, travel to the Salesian Museum, where you'll learn about local flora and fauna, local indigenous life, and regional history. Finally, drive to Cerro de la Cruz, where you'll get a glimpse of the Strait of Magellan. Imagine what Magellan saw when he stood at this point and first saw this view of Tierra del Fuego. Then, pass the Plaza de Armas before returning to the ship.
