The Green Spain
Located less than 20 miles from the north Portuguese border in the Galicia region, the city of Vigo dates back to the Middle Ages, while still offering an array of modern-day activities.
Take a “mini-cruise” to the Cies Islands for its lovely beaches, stunning panoramas, and laid-back atmosphere, or head to Parque Monte del Castro and Castro Fortress for great views of the city.
Walk down the hill through the Celtic ruins and the old city, and then sit down at one the city’s excellent restaurants for a meal of fresh seafood.
Yet despite this intriguing mix of history, beaches, and sophistication, Vigo itself often gets overlooked, as it’s considered the gateway to Santiago de Compostela, the famed cathedral that is a sacred place of pilgrimage for millions of Christians around the world.
