Your overnight archeological exploration begins with a scenic drive through the Egyptian landscape to the city of Luxor. Tucked beside the Nile on the very soil of ancient Thebes, this was the realm of pharaohs during the height of their reign between the 16th and 11th centuries BC. Check in to your Executive Nile Side View room and then sit down for a delicious lunch in preparation of the day's exploration. Come evening set out to discover the sprawling sound & light show at Karnak Temple. Dating from as early as 2,000 BC., this was the greatest temple complex in all of Thebes. It was built over the ages, during the reign of some 30 Pharaohs, and filled with temples, shrines, mighty pylons and mysterious hieroglyphics. Marvel at the Hypostyle Hall and its 134 pillars, the largest of which measures 75 feet tall and 45 feet around. Witness the Obelisk of Thutmose, one of only four original obelisks still standing. To make the experience all the more memorable, you'll watch an awe-inspiring sound and light extravaganza play out before your eyes amidst this ancient wonder. Head back to the hotel for dinner before bidding your newfound friends goodnight in anticipation of the day still to come.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before venturing to the West Bank and the Valley of the Kings, burial ground of Egyptian pharaohs, high priests and nobility. Perhaps, the most famous of them all is the boy-king, Tutankhamun. Find yourself breathless as you enter the tomb of "King Tut", where the 19-year-old pharaoh still rests in his sarcophagus. Learn about the treasures found here, which now reside in the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, and explore additional tombs for a rare glimpse at a civilization lost to the sands of time. Leaving the valley head to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, a tri-level compound adorned with hand-carved reliefs and considered among the greatest architectural achievements of ancient times. Make a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon to hear tales of Alexander the Great and the mystical "cry" of the statues. Afterwards, unwind on a panoramic cruise down the Nile, while savoring catered lunch. Back on dry land, visit the Temple of Luxor, famed for its avenue of sphinxes and mighty colossus of Ramses II. At last, filled with stories of the ancients, unwind on the trip back to Safaga and your waiting cruise ship. More epic discoveries lie ahead.
