For the last several months, we’ve been hard at work charting a course of return to exploring the world. We’ve missed sharing memorable moments, cultures, and countries with you, and we’re happy to announce that we’ll be welcoming you back soon. Through our global community consciousness and commitment to wellness — and with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention — we are implementing new standards with our Explore Well at Sea program to ensure a healthy return to exploring from our boutique hotel at sea.
We’ve always said our relationship with our guests is what makes cruising with Azamara different. We go the extra mile for you, and that promise hasn’t changed. That’s why we want to share our Healthy Return to Sailing plan with you. Given the environment, we are continually evaluating these protocols and updating them as public health standards evolve. You can rest assured that you’ll have our most updated program well before your sail date.
Here are all the steps we’re taking to keep you feeling safe along every stop on your journey.
Testing & Screening
Thanks to our Explore Well at Sea plan, your safety is top of mind even before you step foot aboard our ships. For the best boarding experience, please make sure to check in online only before your voyage and arrive only during your scheduled time. If you’re traveling from a different country to join us, you’ll need to provide evidence of a negative result from a PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 that has been conducted within 72 hours before your arrival time. If you’re spending some time in our departure country before your cruise, you’ll still need to provide a negative test conducted within 72 hours, or a second test may be required before boarding.
During the boarding process, we ask that you please wear your face mask at all times and maintain social distancing. Before boarding, you’ll be required to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks before sailing, in addition to partaking in a boarding day screening. This screening includes a SARS-CoV-2 Rapid (antigen) test provided by Azamara at the pier. You’ll be pre-registered upon arrival for your test, and results will be delivered via email. This usually takes about 15 minutes. During this time, you’ll also be asked to provide your necessary documents, including a pre-arrival Health Questionnaire and a recent negative SARS-CoV-2 rapid polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result for verification and processing, along with your proof of vaccination. We’ll also conduct a temperature check. If you are feeling flu-like symptoms or have a fever above 100.4 F, a second screening will be administered.
Upon successful completion of your screening, you’ll be able to join us onboard the Azamara ship for your cruise. Our goal is to ensure the health and happiness of all our guests so that you can have the best cruise possible.
The Onboard Experience
If you’ve been aboard an Azamara ship before, you’re sure to remember the muster drill — our mandatory emergency drill. Well, we’ve been working hard to evolve this essential part of ensuring your safety. Today, we’re excited to be introducing the Guest Safety Briefing. Think of it like Muster 2.0! This new briefing streamlines the traditional muster process, making the key elements of the safety drill available on a more personal basis. As soon as you arrive on board, we’ll escort you directly to a muster station. Here, a member of the ship’s team will go over the safety information with you individually or as part of a small group. The entire briefing — which only takes a few minutes — includes what to expect, where to go in case of emergency, and how to use a lifejacket properly. Once done, a crew member will escort you to your room, where your keys will be waiting for convenience and quick access. Here, you can rest, unpack, and get settled, or explore the ship.
Mask Guidance and Physical Distancing
Masks are required indoors when physical distancing isn’t possible, including public areas, terminals, and during shore excursions. You will not be required to wear a mask in staterooms, while dining, or in outdoor spaces when physical distancing is possible.
During your cruise, physical distancing means maintaining 6-feet of distance between travel parties.
Views on independent exploration by international visitors vary by country and departure port. This remains a very fluid situation. When traveling with Azamara, you must follow local health and safety requirements.
Getting Off The Ship
For many, exploring our ports of call is half the fun of cruising, and you’ll be able to do this when you set sail with us. Before debarkation, an antigen test will be administered free of charge by our medical staff. These tests can be easily scheduled beforehand. Additional home-country test requirements will also be administered onboard free of charge.
If you’ve joined us at sea before, you know how seriously we take the cleanliness of our ships. And now, we’re building upon our already high standards to offer you a clean and safe journey. We’re following advanced cleaning protocols and guidelines recommended by the Healthy Sail Panel of global experts and approved by the CDC. These new measures help ensure your health and wellness while providing peace of mind in knowing that every nook of our boutique ships — from bow to stern — is regularly cleaned and sanitized. Our new standards include:
- Enhanced team member training
- Use of EPA-certified disinfectants
- Electrostatic spraying
- Medical-grade cleaning standards
- Sanitation and prevention control
Best of all, you’ll still be able to enjoy everything you love about our ships, including amenities, the warm and friendly service of our crew, and distinctive dining experiences.
We’ve been making fantastic upgrades to our ships during this time, including new HVAC filtration systems. These systems help ensure the air you breathe indoors aboard each of our boutique-style ships is comparable to the fresh sea air you’ll enjoy while relaxing on deck. This advanced filtration system takes in the fresh sea air and moves it through a two-stage filter and then over the anti-microbial copper cooling coils before entering the inside spaces on a ship. In addition, we’re going above and beyond manufacturer recommendations by committing to changing the filters at twice the frequency required. What does this mean for you? Fresh filtered air in staterooms and public areas, as well as HVAC in guest rooms, crew rooms, public spaces, and medical spaces. And speaking of our medical facilities…
You can take comfort in our enhanced medical facilities onboard each Azamara vessel. And it’s not just facilities. We’ll also have more equipment, allowing us to ramp up our onboard testing capabilities and telehealth support, as well as execute multi-level response plans. We’ll also have a dedicated infectious control officer sailing with us on each of our voyages.
We’re confident our enhanced measures will keep our ships safe, but on the outside chance we do detect a COVID-19 case onboard, we have dedicated isolation staterooms to provide comfortable, complimentary care, and new agreements in place with local governments, hospitals, and transportation partners to ensure a safe return home.
Ultimately, our goal is to provide you with total peace of mind — so you can breathe easily and enjoy your voyage with us.
Knowing Your Country’s Additional Requirements
To have the best cruise experience possible, we encourage you to look into local health authorities or government travel advice regarding any requirements your home country may have for exiting or re-entering its borders.
Greece and Vaccinations — What You Need to Know
As we get ready to set sail from Greece, we want you to have all the information you need. These are the most up-to-date protocols you need to know for departing from Greece in August and September of 2021. All guests aged 12 and older must be fully vaccinated with all COVID-19 vaccine doses administered at least 14 days before sailing. Acceptable proof of vaccination must be in the form of the original vaccination record document issued by your country’s health authority or the healthcare provider that administered your vaccination.
As always, we will continue to monitor and update these protocols as public health guidelines evolve. Before sailing, you’ll be provided full details specific to your port of departure. You can find additional information on the official Greece Protocol for Arrivals site.
Travel Documents Checklist
To ensure smooth sailing during your cruise, we’ve put together this quick checklist of documents to remember before traveling with us in Greece.
Proof of vaccination
For the health and safety of all on board, all guests 12 and older will be required to provide proof of full SARS-CoV-2 vaccination at the terminal. The date of your final vaccination must be at least two weeks before your sail date. Verified documentation should be in the form of the original vaccination record document.
Negative PCR test result
Your test needs to be conducted within 72 hours before your arrival time in Greece. Proof of a negative test is not required to board if you’ve completed your vaccination and hold a vaccination certificate. However, all guests will undergo rapid antigen testing at the terminal prior to boarding.
All guests must have a passport book (not card) valid for at least 6 months after the date you will be returning to your home country.
You are responsible for checking visa requirements for entering Greece and the ports of call included within your itinerary.
In addition, you must fill in the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) no later than 11:59 PM the day before arriving in Greece. More information on that form can be found here.
