The Stories & Spirits Club explores our love of world travels, literature, cinema, and cocktails with you. During this special series, we’re catching up with different Azamara crew members and asking them to share what they’ve been reading, watching, and enjoying during this time.
An Appetite for Adventure
Former Executive Chef and current Azamara Food & Beverage Manager Fabio D’Agosta’s skills in the kitchen have taken him around the world, literally. For nearly two decades, he’s prepared meals for everyone from Robert De Niro to Queen Elizabeth herself. For nine years, we’ve been happy to have him as part of the Azamara family.

These days, like many of us, Fabio’s life looks a little different, but that’s certainly not a bad thing! He’s been spending a lot of time with his wife and four-year-old daughter, who keeps them busy with her love of drawing and coloring. We recently reached out to Fabio to check-in and found out how he’s staying busy. We also asked him to share his favorite port that he’s visited with Azamara. As always, he served up something great!
As a Sicilian, it should come as no surprise that Fabio’s favorite port is close to home in Sicily. Specifically, Siracusa, a 2,700-year-old city of timeless beauty by the Ionian Sea. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Siracusa was once the most important city in all of Western Civilizations. Today, it’s rich with archaeological sites, including Parco Archeologico della Neapolis. Here, you can explore amphitheatres and altars, catacombs and quarries. It truly is a paradise for history lovers.

Elsewhere, the picturesque piazzas of Siracusa offer a welcoming spot to relax with world-famous Sicilian cannoli or a slice of takeaway square pizza. You can see (and taste) it all on an intimate walking tour of Ortigia, the historic center of Siracusa. You’ll visit Duomo di Ortigia, Siracusa’s grand cathedral, the Arethusa Fountain, and more — all with insight from local experts who are happy to share the city’s rich history with you.
The Hunger For Travel Remains
We’d like to say ciao to Fabio and thank him for sharing his love for his home. Like him, we’re also looking forward to visiting the city of Siracusa again soon.
